Your Jana Kurucová

„The Slovak mezzo-soprano Jana Kurucová skillfully demonstrates how much lyricism can be infused into a voice, only to follow it with such fiery intensity that it takes your breath away. With her portrayal of Varvara, she delivers the most colorful character interpretation of the evening.“

STRAUSS: ARIADNE AUF NAXOS (KOMPONIST)

ESTATES THEATRE PRAGUE

(Witt, Daubnerová, Morozová, Briscein, Kaňková, Kubáň...)

"The entire introductory section belongs to the Composer — Jana Kurucová handled it with seasoned assurance. In the very first response, a slightly uncertain phrasing could be heard, but this proved to be the last hesitation of the Slovak mezzo-soprano.

The high tessitura, combined with a constant — including vocal — presence on stage, means that many singers lose power in the closing monologue when singing fortissimo. That did not happen here, however: she preserved her pleasing timbre through to the final note."

"Another debut — the trouser role of the Composer. The new Composer was the mezzo-soprano Jana Kurucová, who impressed with several superbly sung high notes and demonstrated confidence in technically demanding passages …"

STRAUß: THE BAT (PRINCE ORLOFSKY)

“Jana Kurucová was an Orlofsky straight out of a picture book – a striking, deep voice of great impact.”

“One of the key figures in the story is Prince Orlofsky… For the first time I heard this role sung in such a way that the vocal line was truly sustained and intelligible, and the voice sounded rich in color and full of power.

The interpreter of Prince Orlofsky was Jana Kurucová, a Slovak singer who performs mainly at German opera houses. Her acting convinced with great immediacy – she dared audacious feats on the edge of the proscenium box and did not shy away from expressive movement. Thanks to her vocal potential, she succeeded in shaping this role into that of a genuine hostess and an authoritative presence.”

“Jana Kurucová, with Eastern European dark mezzo fire, as the party-loving Russian prince Orlofsky.”

“Orlofsky’s aria – brilliantly delivered from the edge of the director’s box by Jana Kurucová.”
